One of the best places to start your zero-waste journey is with “why”. Ask yourself, “why do I believe we need to reduce our waste?”, “who am I doing this for?” and “will this positively impact my family?” Once you’re clear on your “why”, slowly begin implementing the waste-free ideas that are right for your household.

Below, we share some easy tips to get you started.

  • 1

    Reduce single-use plastic

Carry a reusable water bottle, reusable coffee cup, reusable produce and shopping bags and say no to plastic straws. Grab yourself a metal straw and wooden/metal cutlery kit and pop it in your handbag.

  • 2

    Plan your meals

Planning your menu for the week allows you to buy only what is needed, which in turn reduces food waste and saves you money. Once a week, before you do the shopping, do a stocktake of your pantry and see if you have any staples that needs using up like rice, quinoa and legumes. Then, create your meals around these items and prepare a shopping list
